Mercy Centre - (S)

Updated: Nov 4, 2019

CAS Learning Outcomes:

5: Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively

6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

On December 12, 2018, the serWIS club organized a trip to the Mercy Centre during Wells Without Walls (WWW). "Mercy Centre is a shelter for street kids, five orphanages, a hospice, a home for mothers and children with HIV/AIDS, a 400-pupil kindergarten, a community meeting place, and a serene haven in the slums with small gardens and playgrounds." We collaborated with the team in Mercy Centre and decided to donate supplies such as clothes, toys, stationaries, and more to the kids. A group of students from the club, including me, went to the Mercy Centre to help support the kids and spend time with them. We played football with them, coloured on worksheets, exercised with them, and did many other activities with them. We worked in small teams to satisfy the kids and to give them a joy-able and enjoyable experience. Being in teams made me realize how essential it was to cooperate with each other to help the kids. We made sure we communicated with the kids and with other students to make sure they're not feeling lonely and are actually having fun. Our sole purpose was to raise our awareness of the global issue of homeless kids and to take actions to solve this conflict in the world.
